10 Movies That Almost Made Actors Quit

The work of the actors and actresses in the entertainment industry is really hard, despite the fortune that one could get. Sometimes there are roles that were so demanding that they almost made them stop. Good thing they didn’t!

Jim Carrey

Out of all the movies he made, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of the most iconic. However, this would have never existed if not for Carrey’s passion for the role. During the filming of the movie, he was forced to sit for more than three hours, for makeup sessions, and just to get into the character. It felt like torture for him and he was ready to walk out of the set. Thankfully, producer Brian Grazer has a friend, a CIA trainer, who spent a weekend with the actor. All credits to this friend, as he was able to convince Carrey, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Al Pacino

The Godfather and its sequel surely gave so much pride and boosted his career in the entertainment industry. However, these investments also caused so much that almost made him quit doing them. Producers were reportedly hard on him, a source even mentioned that he wasn’t the first choice for the role, but the director of the film, Francis Ford Coppola, believed in him. In the end, his portrayals were recognized by various awards shows, including the Academy Awards.

Daisy Ridley

It was on the first taping day of Star Wars: The Force Awakens when the new actress experienced a panic attack, and the director, J.J Abrams described Ridley as “wooden,” which definitely made a mark inside her head. Thankfully, she overcame all the overwhelming degree of physical, mental, and emotional struggles, and she eventually finished the movie that changed her life forever.

In his most unforgettable ever, Ian McKellen almost quit playing the role of Gandalf the Grey as he was forced to act alone on the green screen. Despite the crew members being in the background, doing his thing alone caused him to breakdown. Director Peter Jackson made sure to assist the veteran actor. Meanwhile, the crew members later set up a “Gandalf Appreciation Day,” to comfort him and make him stay. They decorated his tent with beautiful souvenirs from the Lord of the Rings.

Jennifer Lawrence

People who watched the film series might be familiar with the sewer scene, specifically in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. The filming of the scene took three weeks and the thing that also gave her a hard time was her 20-pound costume. The high degree temperatures in the dark sewer made it worse and almost made the Academy award-winning actress quit.

Michelle Pfeiffer

In one of her most iconic roles, Cat Woman, Pfeiffer revealed that putting the costume on took a handful of works. In order to keep the latex from sticking into her skin, a huge amount of baby powder was used so it wouldn’t also be hard for her to take it off. Furthermore, bathroom breaks were also impossible at that time, while the tight costume made it harder for her to breathe, which led her to faint many times.

Michael Keaton

Credits to technology, costumes nowadays, especially for superhero characters, are highly customizable, which not only fit them perfectly but also provide extreme comfort. Meanwhile, when Keaton landed the role of Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, his costume almost made him quit as it was constricting and also caused him to be claustrophobic. Thankfully, he finished the shoot and became one of the most memorable Batman actors.

However, by the time he was shooting for the latest installment, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, he was badly hurt that almost made him incapable of continuing.
